84.3% of the population are Latvian, and the rest is Russians, Belarussians, Ukrainians and Poles.

Historically Latvia has been an exporter of timber and wood products. But also today it is important and in Cesis is wood processing a strong and growing business. The region has also a lot of other industries, especially within blick and tin, printing, construction and food producing. The Printing house "Jana Seta" is one of the largest printing companies in the Baltic States

Cesis is surrounded by Gauja National Park and the longest river in Latvia; Gauja River, flows through the region. This, together with that Cesis has a rich historical and cultural heritage, makes Cesis an attractive place for tourists.
