Experiences in Lithuania 2003-04-18
28. Mars left a group of students (and "grownups") from Notodden.
We were going to Alytus to help them make their town a more attractive place to live.
Most of the time we just had fun, and we had always something to do. We
went out every evening to bowl, go to a pub or dance. We also had an evening
when the Lithuanian students showed us their national costumes and we all danced
to their national music.

It was very nice to experience their culture and weekday, and not
only see what a regular tourist would have seen. Talking about weekday; we also
lived in a family with a Lithuanian student in the project. The families were very
gentle and gave us a lot. Many even offered us to live in their houses if we ever
wanted to come back.
While we were in Alytus, we also went to Vilnius and Kaunas, and
a park named Grutas park, were statues/monuments (about their war) from all over
Lithuania were placed.
We become good friends with the students in the project, and we stay
in contact throught e-mails and telephone, until they comes to Notodden 11.
September.
The Lithuanians loved to sing and the first thing we did when we
met them was to sing songs; Norwegian, Lithuanian and Englissh...
They wanted to get in contact with us and made us feel very welcome! :)
I think this program ment a lot to the people in Alytus. Our work
was presented on television, radio and in newspapers. And that`s what make
this project fun; people (politicians) listen to us, and we get to know new
interesting people!
All of us had a very good time in Alytus. We even think about going
back sometime... And all the nice pictures (hint, hint til Jan reidar og Torgeir..)
will always refresh our memories.
