Future Charter - Ulricehamn 2004-02-06
Representatives of Ulricehamns municipality and the young people involved in the PIPE project have together worked on their future charter.

Municipality of Ulricehamn Proposed charter Representatives of Ulricehamns municipality and the young people involved in the PIPE project have agreed on the following:

1. It is vital that as many citizens as possible are involved in the creation, planning and implementation of ideas for activities to ensure that our municipality will always be a good place to live and work. Local development is a joint responsibility that cannot be left to "others". The involvement of the young is very important.

2. The municipality wants to take young people seriously. It aims to find and implement work models for local development valuing the ideas and commitment of the young. To achieve co-operation, an organised group is required consisting of representatives of the young/the youth council, politicians, the business sector and officials.

3. We, representatives of the municipality, want to inspire young people to commit themselves and be active "promoters and co-actors" in the development of our municipality. The young people hope to see the realisation of their visions for their home municipality through active participation, making Ulricehamn a more attractive place to live.

4. We have come to an agreement that great importance should be attached in the coming years to the following issues, ensuring that our municipality continues to be a nice place to live, with good opportunities for cultural, social and economic activities and personal development. The following areas in the PIPE project have been given priority in further planning/measures:

  • PUBLIC TRANSPORT
    • Improved communication between Ulricehamn and other places in the municipality, on weekdays and weekends. (Responsibility: the local government)
  • SCHOOLS
    •  Implement suggested improvements of Tingsholms outdoor and indoor environment put forward by the young. (Responsibility: the headmaster)
    • Investigate the feasibility of supplying everyone in the upper-secondary school with a portable computer. (Responsibility: the local government)
  • MEETING POINTS & ACTIVITIES
    • Local reductions combined with the CSN permit (National Board of Student Aid). (Responsibility: the local government)
    •  Sports facilities should be used to their optimum. Reservation lists for spontaneous use are desirable. (The young will investigate the degree of utilisation)
    • A youth cafe/music cafe where local musicians could entertain. (Responsibility: the local government)
    • First-night cinema performances at Ulricehamn. (Responsibility: the local government)
  • FORUM FOR CO-OPERATION AND INFLUENCE
    •  Fresh start for the youth council with representation in the local economy council, the city association, the planning group and the tourist association. (Responsibility: the local government)
