Last week, just before the youth in Vardø headed for EXPO, they arranged their annual" Town Cleaning Day's". They involved all the schools, kinder gardens, companies and citizens. During these days people were observed in the streets cleaning up all over the town. The journalist of the local newspaper was very pleased and encourage the citizens of Vardø to embrace the youth's slogan " Vardø - Nice and Clean "

Wednesday 28th of April, the youth in Vardø gathered and had a brainstorming on possibilities for the new Youth Club. PIPE Vardø had invited the creative Youth Leader from Tromsø and Tvibit (a well known Youth Club), Magne Amundsen. The youth did a fantastic job, and by the end of the day they had brilliant ideas how to make the new Youth Club a place of inovation and fun.

Last week, PIPE youths from Vardø and Kirkenes travelled to Tromsø to visit Tvibit, a very successful Youth Centre. The Youth learned a lot about Tvibit`s philosophy, youth enterprises and organisation. Hopefully they will be able to use some of their experiences in their own municipality and create good Youth Centres both in Kirkenes and Vardø.

The management team visits Pipe projects in the high north of Europe

Bjørn R. Opjordsmoen visited Vardø 4-5th of February. During his stay, the Youth took him on a snowmobile ride to Persfjorden, a lovely place with beautiful scenery and nice little cabins where people of Vardø like to spend their weekends. They had a meeting in "Roy`s Cabin" and served hot cocoa and fruit. Even though it was cold outside, the fireplace was lit and they spent a few warm and nice hours before they headed back to Vardø for more meetings.

The youth in Vardø has a project called " Youth Info". A projector will use the wall behind the students as a screen. The aim of this project is to inform the youth about everything that is happening in Vardø, which (believe it or not) is quite a lot. Hopefully youngsters will attend to more activities when they can see the schedules for all the activities on the wall. This project also has a second intention. We hope this project can develop into a "Youth Enterprise" , that is to make the projector accessible to companies and institutions that might want to use it for advertising.

Thanks to the PIPE group in Vardø there will be a newswall in the town center . The wall chosen for the installation is the house owned by the Salvation Army. An electronic projector funded by "Vardø i vekst" and the municipality will literally highlight the writings on the wall ! The project will be organised as a Youth Enterprise managed by a group of students at Vardø upper secondary school. Income potential will be from commercials, info from NGO's, private greetings, public informations etc.

After 3 days of hard work the TRAVEL FAIR was opened by the Mayor. Both the local and the regional newspapers were present. Along with the city Head Counsellor and politicians they got very impressed by the 5 youth enterprises.(A slideshow is connected to this article )

From Wednesday 19 until Saturday 22 there will be an international PIPE workshop in Vardø town in Finnmark. Approximately 20 students and teachers are coming from Russia and Rovaniemi to join the workshop together with local particpants from Vardø and Sør-Varanger. The main topic is about tourism development.
