Youth day in Cesis on the 1 of September

On the 1 of September in Cesis took place very big event organized by youth themselves. The idea about the organization of the Youth day came up during the Democracy training group seminars which were organized during the PIPE project realization in Latvia. In the Democracy training group were participating 25 young people - school leaders and the members of the Cesis City youth council. The youth day was organized by Cesis City youth council. Of course, it was done in cooperation with the Cesis City council. So the network between officials of the city and the young people was deepened what is very important in the possible future collaboration.

The event began with the procession from the schools to the park where took place the opening of the Youth day. The Youth day was relatively divided into two parts - the information block and the entertainment block. The information block was made as an exhibition where the youth organizations introduced with activities happening in their frameworks. Each organization had an opportunity to present them on the scene. The aim of this part was to give to the young people information about the extracurricular activities which are available in the Cesis city and district as well. I think that this aim was achieved because in the exhibition were participating more than 15 different organizations - so was represented the various interests of the young people - there were participating the youth organizations of political parties, dance and song clubs, Red Cross, Scouts, Girl Guides and other institutions. This part of the Youth day was well attended therefore I can conclude that it was really necessary for the young people and they have collected a lot of information about the possibilities how to spend their leisure hours. It was the general aim of this part as well.

Parallel to the information part in the Medieval Castle Park was taking place the day concert in which were participating the youth amateur performances, the dance and song clubs could show the work they have done.

During the evening took place the evening concert with the youth groups from Cesis city and district. There were represented different music styles - aimed at different young people. As special guests were invited two fairly popular groups all over the country from Riga.

The Cesis City youth council hopes that the organization of such kind event could be now as a tradition when on the 1 of September young people are organizing festivities for other young people.   

The most important thing is the fact that everything in this event was organized by youth themselves. It was the best school we could desire - to make something come true, from the beginning when was only the idea, till the realization. The best way how to learn is to do!
